The Legacy of the Bay Area Zodiac Killer Lives On Today

The Zodiac killer was a terror in the San Fransisco Bay Area during the era of the 1960’s. Taking 37 lives . at least , if not more in number . To this day the Zodiac and the “Zodiac Killer” fascinates many to this very day.

It is generally held, after extensive research and corroboration tat between Dec 1968 and November of that year that the Zodiac was the terror on the minds of most in the San Francisco Bay areas. The legacy of the Zodiac lives on today as unfortunately the model if not hero, of many individuals, whom you might well call crazy or psychopaths

Working his killing through different areas, he became known only as the zodiac killer after he included taunting letters to the press. The letters started in 1969 when the zodiac killer placed three almost identical letters out to three area papers.

The exact number of people loved by friends and family who perished at the hand of the Zodiac will never be known or tallied. On top of that there may have been a number of copycats both in the San Fransisco areas and nationwide throughout the US. The Zodiackiller would continue these letters and taunting for many years. Though only seven victims were conclusively connected to the zodiac, it’s no doubt that he may have easily had a hand in the rest of the slayings.

Amazingly even with all the clues provided by the Zodiac in his taunting of the police and his boasts , the Zodiac was never caught. One would think that it would only take one single clue to give his identity area. But that never occurred. The main suspect in the case was one Arthur Leigh Allen, but no case was ever made against him. In fact it was in 2002 that DNA evidence was processed, but no links could be made to Allen in any of those tests.

It may have been just plain luck or happenstance that Mr. Arthur Leigh Allen could never be properly charged in the legal system , taken off the streets , and tried in a true criminal court. The amazing thing is that if these events occurred today , a good trial lawyer could make a very strong case , that his client could never get a “fair ” trial anywhere in the United States or indeed anywhere in the world. It was as if the roulette tables were fixed both against the capture of this villain and even his treatment in the legal system and court of law.

Mr. Allen , the chief suspect by the police , in terms of the actual identity of the famed murderer died in 1992 of renal failure. He took his secrets to the grave with him. Perhaps it is rumored that the Zodiac Killer has a daughter who may one yet step forward to reveal the truth in these matters.

Finally all the all , no matter for the poor victims or the fame of serial killer , the San Fransisco Bay Area Police Dept. , finally closed the case in the year of 2004. Perhaps the real Zodiac Killer will be so incited and incensed at his apparent loss of celebrity fame , that he will finally tip his hand carelessly .
