Need To Know About Operating Under The Influence

Many people have heard of blood alcohol content, but still wonder exactly what it is. If you are operating under the influence then a test will show that your blood alcohol content is no more than 0.08%.

Blood alcohol content, also simply referred to as BAC, is presented as a percentage. It is the amount of alcohol in a person’s bloodstream and this number is used by police when they are determining if a person operating a vehicle is intoxicated enough to be legally drunk or legally under the influence.

The traffic safety control also uses percentages when determining how much alcohol is in a person’s blood system. However, they use blood measured in deciliters and can approximate the BAC and that is regardless of the person’s weight or how long ago the alcohol was consumed. Therefore, it is impossible to fool the police since the tests are accurate.

The states also have different laws and regulations when it comes to operating a vehicle under the influence. There are also different punishments for those that drive under the influence, which is considered to be anything that does not exceed the legal limit of 0.08%. Anything above the legal limit is a serious crime and has serious consequences.

Any driver caught operating a vehicle and who has a BAC of 0.08% or more has committed a crime and there will be legal consequences. The car can be impounded, immobilized, forfeited or confiscated. The registration can also be suspended and special identifying license plates may also be required. On top of all that, an interlock device may be installed which can lock the ignition to keep offenders from driving while under the influence again.

The legal BAC limit of 0.08% applies to drivers that are 21 or older, since people younger than that are not allowed to drink alcohol at all. In some states, though, the legal limit is a bit higher and a BAC of 0.10% is allowed. This exception is found in states like New York, West Virginia and Colorado.

There are differences in how the levels of alcohol in the blood can affect different people. Whereas some have concentration impairments at a level of 0.02% already, others can drink more before those same impairments are noticed. However, not being able to concentrate on things in the line of vision will always occur before a 0.05% BAC is reached.

Operating under the influence is a serious crime that you should never commit. No matter how many pieces of gum you chew or how many glasses of water you drink, your blood level content will not be lessened. Instead of trying to fool the police by different schemes, you should just stick to the limits. This way, you will not have anything to hide or worry about.
