As a patient we expect the best medical care available to us. It is actually a legal right we have. If at any point, in the care of a medical practitioner, the minimum standards are not upheld then they are negligent. We expect the best from our medical community and it needs to be delivered. When it isn’t, the effects can be life altering. Negligence could result in any number of things from disease transference to paralysis to surgery on the wrong part of the body.

Once you’ve selected a few lawyers you are interested in, sit down with them. Your first impression of them is important. They should make you feel comfortable and at ease. Make sure they understand your case and they have a plan for how to handle it. Sit down with their former clients to see what they have to say.
Finally there are commissions to be dealt with. Most lawyers take a percentage of the settlement in the event that you win. This payment needs to be in writing and you need to factor it into the amount you are initially asking for. Be very clear about all money related issues before you hire a lawyer.
