Bradford Employment Solicitors Succeed In Racial Discrimination Case

We are taught not to discriminate against other people because of their heritage, race or colour of their skin from a young age. Why is it that professional adults cannot abide by the same law as most children, who understand that it is wrong to single out and pick on another person simply because they are of a different background to them?

A Bradford solicitor has been successful in a landmark case in racial discrimination, which involved her being suspended from working at her law firm due to the fact that she joked that she was ‘Osama Bin Laden’s friend’ because of her Muslim heritage. The comment was obviously made in jest; she even asserted that she was completely against the 9/11 bombings, yet the situation still led to her being suspended from her place of work.

A Bradford employment tribunal demanded for her to be reinstated and issued a full and unequivocal apology, declaring that there was, ‘not a shred of evidence’ to support the treatment of the solicitor. Funnily enough, the Bradford lawyer, who hired a Bradford employment solicitor and embarked on a seven year legal battle that cost the taxpayer 500,000 in additional costs said that she would have been happy with a simple apology at the time and to let the whole thing blow over.

She stated that this case was not about the money but about the principle as she was sure that this treatment would not have occurred had she not been a Muslim and Asian. She is apparently using the pay out to build an orphanage in Pakistan, which reinforces this claim.

The employment tribunal stated that for such a public body that the lawyer worked for, who have a responsibility to act in a proper and decent manner, to act in the manner that they did could only be described as astonishing as any employer acting the way that the bosses in question had acted was unacceptable. Apparently, ’serious’ questions had to be asked about who is ultimately responsible and the chain of command that could lead to such an incident taking place to find out where the buck stops.

If you feel that you have been discriminated against at work, perhaps because of your race or heritage or maybe because of something totally different but just as important, then contact a Bradford employment solicitor today to se if you can claim the compensation that you deserve.
